The energy regulator has suggested that the nation's first remote CNG station should sell the gas at Tk 37.50 per cubic meter.
The Haji Sarwar 'Mobile CNG Station' being set up in Jhilanja, Cox's Bazar is the first station in the country not connected to a pipeline. Gas will be sent to the station from the nearest source Chittagong, in cylinders. The added cost requires that an additional price be fixed.
Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) on Tuesday held a public hearing on the price at its Karwanbazar office. The station authorities suggested they should sell gas at Tk 43.
Following the latest hike in fuel price on Sep 19, CNG is being sold across the country for Tk 30 per cubic meter.
The BERC evaluation committee suggested Tk 37.50 as the price for the new station.
BERC chairman Syed Yusuf Hossain told bdnews24.com public opinion would be heard on the issue until Oct 10, after which a final decision would be announced.
Haji Sarwar CNG Filling Station applied to the BERC for the station on Feb 2 this year. The station owners at the hearing said their aim was to take gas to the tourists who travelled to Cox's Bazar in private cars.
They said the station's construction would be completed within two months.
