The local administration authorities have banned gatherings at and around Jamalpur town's Singhajani Boys High School ground after two units of Jatiyabadi Mohila Dal, the women's wing of the main opposition party, called for meetings there.
Akhter Jahan Moni, former joint secretary of the wing's district unit, called for a worker's rally of the city unit at the venue on Tuesday afternoon. The city unit's president, Rokhsana Rahman Hashi, called a counter rally there at the same time.
Additional district magistrate Abdul Karim banned meetings and processions at and around the school after tension rose over the counter programmes, Sadar police chief Mujibur Rahman Majumder told bdnews24.com.
The 24-hour ban will be effective from 10am on Tuesday, he added.
Police have taken position at and around the school premises after the ban was imposed.
