A 9-year-old girl was killed in fire on Sunday night while a couple was held on Monday for alleged bid to kill a young girl by setting her on fire.
A girl was burned to death as a fire broke out at a house at Foktora village in Kishoreganj upazila of Nilphamari on Sunday night.
The fire, originating from electric short circuit, took place at the house of Boga Barman and spread to 25 adjoining houses, reports UNB.
The fire burned down valuables including jute, tobacco and furniture of the houses.
Sishu Barmani, a 9-year-old daughter of Bachcha Barman, who was sleeping in the house, was burned to death as she could not come out from the burning house. Later, her charred body was recovered from the house.
In Manikganj, police arrested a couple for their alleged bid to kill a pregnant girl by setting her on fire at Joypura village under Sombhag union in Dhamrai upazila on Monday, reports our correspondent.
The couple was identified as Shafiqul Islam, 30, son of Abul
Hossain of Joypura village and Rawshan Ara, 25.
Quoting locals, police said that the couple set their neigbour Nasima,25, on fire after pouring kerosene at around 8:00 pm as she became pregnant by Shafiqul Islam.
Shafiqul developed an illicit relation with his colleague Nasima about one and a half years ago, local union parishad member Mozaffar Hossain said.
Officer-in-charge of Dhamrai police station Jahangir Hossain said Nasima of Laxmipur village under Raipura upazila of Narsingdi district is a worker of a cycle making factory.
Severely injured, she was admitted to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
