BSF hands over body of Bangladeshi man

The body of a Bangladeshi man, who was killed by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along the border in the district, was handed over to the local battalion of the Border Guard Bangladesh on Saturday evening.

The killing took place early Saturday at Nagorvita border adjoining Baliadangi upazila in Thakurgaon district. The man has been identified as Mohammad Ajirul, son of Potla Mohammad of Dakkhin Doari village in the upazila.

Officer-in-Charge of the Baliadanga Police Station Shahabuddin told bdnews24.com that BSF handed over the body to BGB at 6pm after a flag meeting between Thakurgaon BGB-30 and BSF-14 battalions held at Nagorvita border.

Later the BGB handed over the body to the police.

BGB-30 (Thakurgaon) battalion Operational Commander Lt Col Towhidul Islam told bdnews24.com that a patrol of BSF-14 battalion opened fire when Ajirul allegedly tried to make his way across the border near pillar 376/4 of the border around 3:30am.
He was hit in the head and died on the spot, he said.

BSF killed 151 in 3½ yrs: Shahara

India's Border Security Force (BSF) has gunned down 151 Bangladeshi citizens during the incumbent government's tenure, Home Minister Shahara Khatun has told Parliament.

She was replying to a query of Laxmipur-1 MP Nazim Uddin Ahmed on Wednesday.

Shahara said the government had protested border killings at various programmes and flag meetings held between the Border Guard Bangladesh and BSF personnel.

The Home Minister informed the House that a top-level bilateral discussion had taken place with India on Bangladesh government's plea to stop border killings.

She said the Indian government had assured of taking steps to avert such killings.

In response to Chandpur-4 MP Harun-Ur Rashid's query, Shahara said 11 Bangladeshis had been killed and 27 others injured in BSF firing since Jan 1 this year alone.

Dhaka has been criticising and protesting killings of its citizens along the border with India for a long time. Various national and international human rights organisations have also slammed the Indian government for not taking adequate steps to avert the killings.

The Human Rights Watch on Jun 11 said India should investigate fresh allegations of human rights violations by its border forces along its porous border with Bangladesh and urged to prosecute the responsible.

The organisation also urged the Indian government to abide by pledges it had made to bring an end to border killings.

BGB capture BSF man

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have caught a member of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on chargesof intruding into Bangladesh through Meherpur border.

BGB's Mirpur sector Assistant Commandant and 29 Battalion's Commander Maj Zahid said the trooper was arrested from Bajitpur on Monday afternoon.

He has been identified as Satya Paul Singh, a soldier from Shahpur camp under 119 Battalion of BSF.

BGB Bajitpur camp Commander Subedar Jalal Uddin said Satya intruded into Bangladesh while chasing a cattle trader.

As Satya crossed the border and came close to BGB's Bajitpur camp, he was detained, he added.

Maj Zahid told reporters that BSF 119 Battalion has been informed about the matter and the BSF member would be handed over to India at a flag meeting.

Dhaka protests fresh killings at border

The foreign ministry has strongly protested opening fire by India's Border Security Force (BSF) and killing of two unarmed Bangladeshi nationals recently.

Md Durul Islam (38) of Chapainawabganj received bullet wounds on May 16 as BSF personnel opened fire when he was inspecting his own maize field. He succumbed to the injuries the same day. Another Bangladeshi national, Faruk Ali, also died as a result of firing by the Indian border guards in the same area on April 14, according to a media statement of the ministry.

The ministry has requested India to conduct an inquiry into the incidents and take appropriate action against the BSF personnel responsible for such deplorable acts.

It has also called for immediate effective action to prevent recurrence of such incidents in the future.

While registering its protest over continuation of such killings by BSF, the ministry recalled the commitment of the Indian leadership to put an end to such acts of violence.

The ministry reminded that the Indian side had reiterated its assurance with respect to incidents of firing by BSF at various forums, the most recent one being at the Joint Consultative Commission meeting between Bangladesh foreign minister and external affairs minister of India on May 7-8.

BSF kills Bangladeshi again

Kill again,BSF don't stop their kill in bangladeshi.India's Border Security Force has killed another Bangladeshi citizen on Dinajpur border despite the Indian government's promise to stop killing along the border.

The incident occurred early on Friday morning at the district's Daudpur border in Birampur, Commander of the 40th Battalion of the Border Guard Bangladesh Lieutenant Colonel Tayebul Haque told .

The deceased has been identified as Saidur Rahman Chiku, 50 who is the son of Abdul Gafur of Birampur Upazila's Poli Mahmudpur village.

He used to rustle cattle from India, Haque said.

The BGB Commander said Saidur and his companions were on their way to India when members of BSF's Gobindapur camp threw grenade at them near pillar no. 289/25 (a).

Saidur received wounds from the grenade and fell to the ground. The BSF members then opened fire at him and killed him, he said.

The BSF has taken Saidur's body, Haque said.

The BGB Commander said they tried to communicate with their Indian counterparts to get the dead body back. "The BSF is yet to respond."

In 2011, the international human-right outfits Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International had severely criticised the Indian government for continuous killing of unarmed Bangladeshis along the border.

Human Rights Watch found numerous cases of indiscriminate use of force, arbitrary detention, torture, and killings by the security force, without adequate investigation or punishment.

The BSF chief, Raman Shrivastava, after a four-day visit to Dhaka on Sep 30 last year said his forces had introduced non-lethal weapons in many places to bring border killings down to "zero level".

According to reports, over 900 Bangladeshi nationals have been killed by the BSF over the last decade, many of them when they crossed into Indian territory for cattle rustling or other smuggling activities.

BSF 'kills' Bangladeshi at C'nawabganj border

Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Saturday gunned down a Bangladeshi cattle trader along Chapainawabganj border.

Lt Col Jahangir Hossain, commander of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) 39 Battalion in Chapainawabganj, said the shooting took place at Chowka border of Shibganj upazila early in the morning.

The deceased was identified as Faruk Hossain, 25, son of Jasim Uddin from Parchowka village in the upazila.

Faruk died on the spot when BSF members of 125 Battalion of Shabdelpur fired on Bangladeshi cattle traders who were returning to Bangladesh from India with cattle around 5:30am, the BGB battalion commander said.

"BSF took away Faruk's body. Others fled the scene," Jahangir added.

He said BGB has sent a letter asking the BSF to return the body.

On Apr 4, another Bangladeshi was killed by BSF along Shingnagar border in Chapainawabganj.

8 BSF 'brutes' given 89-day jail

A Border Security Force (BSF) court has jailed eight of its personnel for 89 days for torturing a young Bangladeshi in West Bengal's Murshidabad district, Indian media reported on Wednesday.

The personnel were found prima facie guilty after a court of inquiry was instituted into the incident which took place in early February, a PTI report said.

They can resume duty only after serving the term in BSF's 'quarter guard' – the paramilitary force's version of jail, it said quoting officials of the border guards.

As additional punishment, one of the eight BSF personnel was demoted from the post of head constable to constable in order to facilitate his jailing, since as per the BSF rules, a head constable cannot be sent to jail, an official told PTI.

The jailed BSF personnel are Verendar Tiwari, VS Victor, Dhananjoy Kumar, Anand Singh, Amar Jyoti, Snajeev Kumar, Suresh Chand and Sunil Kumar.

The BSF, widely criticised for killing Bangladeshis along the border, suspended the eight of its personnel on Jan 18 and ordered 'court martial' proceedings against them recently after some Indian TV channels aired a video showing a Bangladeshi man being stripped, kicked and beaten by them.

The video showed three to four personnel, donning BSF-style dark green fatigues, stripping and then beating a lungi-clad man with his hands tied behind his back in the incident that reportedly took place on Dec 9.

Habibur Rahman, 22, son of Saidur Rahman of Satero Rashia under Durlavpur union council of Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj, was the man tortured. He told on Jan 19 that he was tortured by the BSF men while returning to Bangladesh with cattle through Khanpur border of Paba upazila in Rajshahi district on Dec 9 last year.
