DGEN rises in initial trade

The Dhaka Stock Exchange benchmark index opened Tuesday's trade with a surge as it gained 39.11 points bagging a Tk 774.08-million turnover within half an hour.

The DSE General Index reached 4506.89 points gaining 0.87 percent at 11am on the week's third business day.

Of the traded issues so far, prices of 163 advanced, 18 declined and 11 remained at their opening prices.

Bangladesh's premiere bourse had opened the week lower shedding 30 points in its key index.

Over the previous week, the DGEN shed 164 points or 3.53 percent. The average daily turnover was Tk 8.51 billion. In the week before, the key index fell by 36 points.

DGEN closes with gains

The Dhaka Stock Exchange's benchmark index ended Tuesday's trade 1.81 percent higher.

The DSE General Index gained 81.64 points to close at 4578.71 points on the week's third business day.

Shares and mutual funds worth around Tk 6.28 billion changed hands with prices of 244 issues advancing, 26 declining and six remaining unchanged.

Earlier in the day, the Cabinet nodded a proposed law, The Exchanges Demutualisation Act 2012, and approved changes to the existing SEC laws to give more teeth to the capital market regulator.

The Cabinet Secretary said the changes would pave way for setting up special tribunals for stock market-related cases and punishing SEC top brass if they failed to protect confidential information.

The changes will also make tenure of SEC Chairman and Members longer, making it four years from the existing three.

On Monday, the General Index shed 45.56 points to close at 4497.08 points with Tk 5.26-billion turnover.

In the week's first trading session on Sunday, the DGEN closed in the red slipping 103.43 points. The turnover was also lower than the previous week's daily average, standing at Tk 5.24 billion.

Overall trade in the previous week saw a 36-point fall in the DGEN and the average daily turnover was Tk 8.51 billion.

DSE opens on upbeat note

The Dhaka Stock Exchange opened trading on the week's last business day on an upbeat note, with its turnover standing at Tk 1.68 billion-plus within the first half-an-hour.

The DSE benchmark index rose 0.79 percent higher over the previous day's close and reached 4459.58 points, gaining 35.16 points at 11:05am on Thursday.

Of the shares and mutual funds traded, prices of 167 had advanced, 22 declined and 10 remained unchanged until then.

Wednesday's trade was marked by an upward trend but the DGEN closed with a marginal gain of 10.51 points.

The day's trading had closed with a turnover of around Tk 8.7 billion, with prices of 145 issues advancing, 109 declining and 18 remaining unchanged.

On Tuesday, the country's premiere bourse had registered a turnover of around Tk 9.4 billion –- highest in the last over four-and-a-half months.

On Monday, the key index had shed 27.82 points or 0.63 percent, despite a flurry of activities marked by a Tk 7.6-billion turnover.

On the week's opening day, both DGEN and turnover had ended upbeat, with the General Index gaining 60 points and issues worth Tk 6.1 billion changing hands.

The DGEN had shed a total of 122 points through the past week, after a rise of 191 points in the previous one.

DGEN up in initial trade

The Dhaka Stock Exchange's key index registered a gain of 16.48 points in the first hour of Monday's trade.

The DGEN rose 0.37 percent to stand at 4469.36 points at 11:15am amid fluctuations on the week's second business day.

Shares and mutual funds worth around Tk 1.49 billion had changed hands until then, with prices of 115 issues gaining, 78 declining and 26 sticking to their opening prices.

The previous week was marked by fluctuations in the DGEN. It added 191 points through the week and the average daily turnover was Tk 5 billion.

DSE maintains initial gains

Two hours into trading on the week's last working day, the Dhaka Stock Exchange has maintained its initial high in the benchmark index.

The DGEN stood at 4503.98 points around 1:40pm on Thursday, a 50.55-point or 1.14 percent hike from the opening.

It reached the peak around 11:25am, only about an hour into the trade, to stand at 4578.41 points.

Shares and mutual funds worth around Tk 6.22 billion had changed hands in the two-hour trade, with prices of 146 issues gaining, 115 declining and 10 sticking to their opening prices.

On Wednesday, the DSE turnover had hit a four-month high standing at Tk 7.04 billion. The benchmark index had posted a 161.56-point or 3.76-percent rise to close at 4453.43 points.

On Tuesday, the DSE had ended its trade with the DGEN down 49.39 points. Monday had also seen a high turnover, Tk 6.3 billion, but the DGEN had fallen by 0.96 percent.

Both the General Index and the turnover had seen a rise on Sunday, the first working day after an 11-day closure on account of the Eid-ul-Fitr and other national holidays.

DGEN opens week lower

The key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange shed 0.60 percent in the first half an hour on Sunday.

At 11:35am, the DGEN reached 4074.08 points losing 24.62 points on the week's opening day.

Shares and mutual funds worth around Tk 4.3.12 million changed hands so far with prices of 34 issues gaining, 148 declining and 16 remaining unchanged.

The premiere bourse's benchmark index had lost 4.35 percent or 186.27 points last week.

DSE on the up

The benchmark index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) was on an upbeat note when Thursday's trading opened.

Following a seesaw movement, the DSE general index gained 31 points to 4189 points at 11:30am.

Shares and mutual funds worth Tk 330 million changed hands until then. Prices of 150 issues advanced, 21 declined and 16 remained unchanged.

The DGEN slipped 41 points on Wednesday.

Trading on Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges was halted for Tuesday due to persisting problems in the Central Depository Bangladesh Limited server.

The index lost 75 points on Monday and 50 points on Sunday.

The index advanced 118 points or 2.84 percent last week, 2 points in the week before last week but declined 125.85 points or 2.93 percent in the previous week.

The benchmark index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) went down in the early trading on Monday.

DSE general index dropped 29 points to 4205 points at 12pm.

Shares and mutual funds worth Tk 730 million changed hands until then.

Prices of 40 issues advanced, 168 declined and 17 retained their opening prices.

On Sunday, the DGEN lost 50 points with a turnover of Tk 2610 million.

The index advanced 118 points or 2.84 percent last week, 2 points in the week before last week but declined 125.85 points or 2.93 percent in the previous week.

The benchmark index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) lost over 150 points in the first two hours of trading on Monday as prices of most of the shares dropped.

The DSE general index lost 159 points to 4413 points at 12:30pm.

Shares and mutual funds worth Tk 1200 million changed hands until then with prices of only eight issues gaining, 225 declining and three remaining unchanged.

The DGEN had gained 272 points or 6.37 percent last week. It had drpped 320.55 points or 6.94 percent in the previous week.

DGEN keeps gaining

The Dhaka Stock Exchange key index gained 71.95 points around an hour into trading on the week's last business day.

The DSE benchmark index reached 4623.16 points or 1.58 percent higher at 11:30am on Thursday.

Shares and mutual funds worth around Tk 843.77 million changed hands so far with prices of 181 issues advancing, 27 declining and 19 remaining at their opening prices.

The key index reached its peak so far at 4624.20 points around 11:15am.

Around half an hour into the day's trading, the benchmark index gained 38.59 points when it reached 4598.66 points or 1.04 percent higher at 11am.

The DSE benchmark index ended Wednesday's trading 150.48 points higher, closing at 4551.21 points or 3.42 percent up. The day's turnover was around Tk 2.78 billion.

The key index had ended 134.05 points higher on Tuesday. It opened the week's trading 12.36 points lower.

The premiere bourse's benchmark index had shed 6.94 percent or 320.55 points last week.

DGEN downtrend continues

The Dhaka Stock Exchange's key index lost 107.20 points around halfway into Monday's trading.

The DGEN reached 4398.84 points or 2.38 percent lower around 12:33pm on the week's second business day.

Shares and mutual funds worth around Tk 899.44 million changed hands so far with prices of 19 issues advancing, 216 declining and 12 remaining unchanged.

Around half an hour into the day's trading, the key index registered an 87.19 points loss when it reached 4418.84 points or 1.93 percent.

The DSE kicked off the week's trading 114.67 points lower, triggering off protest from retail investors. The DGEN closed at 4506.04 points or 2.48 percent down on Sunday.

The premiere bourse's benchmark index had ended the previous week 59.90 points down with a lower turnover of around Tk 1.86 billion. It had lost around 148 points last week.

The key index of Dhaka Stock Exchange posted a 43.11 points gain around an hour into trading on the week's fourth business day on Wednesday.

The DGEN reached 4785.04 points or 0.91 percent higher around 11:25am.

Shares and mutual funds worth around Tk 618.30 million changed hands so far with prices of 178 issues advancing, 15 declining and 14 remaining unchanged.

The index reached its peak at 4787.24 points around 45 minutes into the day's trading.

The DGEN closed at 4741.93 points or 1.41 percent up on Tuesday with a turnover of around Tk 1.96 billion which was around Tk 1.31 billion less than Monday's.

The DSE ended Monday's trading around 179 points down while it gained around 121 points at the opening of the week's trading.

The key index lost 63.59 points or 1.33 percent during last week's trading with a daily average turnover of around Tk 1.93 billion which was around Tk 1 billion less than the week before.

DGEN tops 5000 points

After rising last week, the benchmark index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) rose on the first trading day of the week to cross the mark of 5000 points.

Gaining 48 points in first five minutes of the Sunday's trading and falling afterwards, the index closed to 5102 points with a gain of 132 points or 2.64 percent.

Of the traded shares and mutual funds, prices of 233 advanced, 30 declined and four remained unchanged. The turnover was Tk 8,130 million.

On Thursday, the DSE general index fell to 4990, plummeting 48 points. Of the traded issues, 107 gained 150 lost and eight remained unchanged. The turnover was Tk 9,340 million, which was the highest in four months. The last highest turnover was Tk 10,510 million on Nov 23 last year.

The DGEN rose 231 points or 4.87 percent last week with an average daily turnover of Tk 7,990 million. Last week's average daily turnover was 67.74 percent higher than that of the previous week.

The index increased 215 points or 4.75 percent in the previous week and 198 points or 4.57 percent in the week before.
